need a quick answer, I don't know
1982 300SD turbodiesel. Following a suggestion from the forum last night, this morning went out to the car. The door locks don't work becasue there is no vacuum pump in the trunk. Missing. So I sucked on the line the gas cap locked. So I think all I need is a pump. But when I went back into the cab of the car the ignition switch was pulled back into the dash. Is this a function of the vacuum or was I nearly made a victim of a car thief?

igniton switch pulled back?? WTF? that's a stumper... there is a vacuum line going to the ignition switch but on the SD it is in no way shape or form related to the door locks. This is not a function of the door locks, i can tell you that much! can you still get a key in and start the car? hmmm, hopefully someone else will come in and give you more help, all i can tell you is that this is not a normal function of the door locks.

Vacuum alone shouldn't have moved the ignition lock, especially vacuum from your mouth, unless you have a lot more lungpower than most of us!!! The thing must be loose or improperly installed. I would pull the instrument cluster and/or the lower dash panel and take a look.
