My W210 diesel decided to start today
It's been probably 6 months, if not longer, since it ran last. Last time it ran regularly, it was a sewing machine, a total workhorse. Then the next day after driving home 3 hours from buying another car, it stopped running. It was getting air in the lines most likely, as I can see (when it would "run" in the driveway) a puddle of diesel fuel running down the driveway from underneath the engine. I ordered all the lines (though they look great) and any o-rings associated with the fuel pump area, and delivery valve o-rings/washers, but never could get my diesel mechanic buddy over here. I decided I needed to just do it myself and before I even attempted to remove the intake manifold today, I decided to give it a crank and even with 35% battery, it started after cranking for 20 or 30 seconds and ran perfectly. I'd gas it and it's rev up just fine, but I could see the fuel leak on the driveway. I killed it to wash months of grime off of it and it wouldn't start back. It almost wanted to, but there's just so much air getting in the lines. But, at least it started and ran

You might consider a low pressure electric fuel pump at the tank to push fuel forward so it doesn't leave you stranded next time it springs a leak. Also makes changing fuel filters a breeze. These cars can also be very sensitive to starting with the nose of the car pointed uphill and less than 1/4 tank of fuel. Again, electric fuel pump is your friend.
