Yes, kind of....
You do not need to remove the alt. from the car, but you do need to un-mount it so it can be twisted around to allow access to swap out the regulator/brush set. I did it a couple years ago. I think that you need to get the back end pointed up.

Yes. I've done it twice as I didn't know how to remove the air filter housing. I wanted to replace the alternator because of about 250000 miles so I learned. Basically, you have to unbolt it, turn it around and then replace the regulator, but it's doable. steve
