Guys,

I have noticed that my temp gauge is getting twichy, seems to bounce between 80 and 100, before settling down to 90.

I am thinking it may be a faulty temp sender unit. What do you say?

Check the contact surfaces of the electrical connector.

Not seen this happen before but what it was the Thermostat jerking around.

This was on a gasser and it did not have your symptoms. I had the temp probe get coated with white residue and which apparel did not conduct heat to the sensor well. When cleaned off everything was normal.

And of course it could be a failing sensor.

Each of the gauges in the cluster is damped by a coil. In the event of a voltage spike, the coil presents an impedance that prevents the gauge from reacting quickly. If the coil shorts to the gauge case, the needle will jump. Unless you have a spare gauge on hand, the correction is to use a bit of electrical tape to insulate the gauge case and slide a length of shrink wrap over the coil. More here:
