With so many variables, I'd say it's rather difficult to put a "general" price on the value.
For instance, what is your definition of "sky-high ridiculous prices"? What's the basic condition of the cars to which your're referring? A low mileage example, in great condition, inside and out, is gonna be worth an awful lot more than a rusted out, broken down, beat to crap piece of junk with upwards of 400k on the clock and a shredded interior, obviously.
Another aspect that can't be ignored is the insane prices used cars are commanding at present. I'm sure there are members on here that acquired E300's, in the past, for a song...so to speak. Of course, I can't testify as to the condition of said vehicles and how much work was needed to make them roadworthy.
I guess it all depends what you're looking for and how much it's worth to you.
