Tranny takes looooong time to engage drive
Lately, the tranny is taking longer and longer to go into gear when it is placed in drive or reverse. The problem is much worse when cold. After it's thoroughly warmed up, it only takes a few seconds maybe longer than most cars but I could totally live with.
I just chaged the fluid/filter and it is a little over the full line. I also "adjusted" the kick down cable because the adjuster broke leaving much slack. I used carboard and zip ties to fab a spacer until I can replace the cable. Using the spacer took car of the previous flaring problem. I don't know if this is related, but when floored, it shifts quick out of first, doesn't reach the first tick mark, but holds the rest of the gears until she's screamin'. All this sounds like a possible vacuum problem. If so, where do I check and what should the value be? I figure I could start at the pump and see if it's pulling down enough, but I don't know how much it should read on the gauge. Frank.

I might have just figured out my problem. My car leaks oil, only not from the motor, from the tranny. I think it's a coolant line. I'm thinking that maybe over night, enough fluid is leaking out that the tranny takes a while to build pressure as it pushes out air and bleeds itself. That would explain why it takes so long to go into gear when it's been sitting as opposed to when you turn it off and restart with little time lapse.
Frank.
