Missing Tail Pipes and Back Pressure

I am now missing both of the tail pipes on my muffler on my 91 300D. (Yes, I know I need a new muffler.) Can that create back pressure issues? I ask because the car is noticeably sluggish these days. Filters fine, wastegate conversion, etc... Hoping it's not the turbo.

You could have an exhaust restriction. Dont remember if the 91 had a catalyst or not, but that can and does clog with soot over time, possibly the muffler as well, tho less likely. I had that happen on a 87 300D. Replacement with a straight pipe cured it. A EGT gauge helps tremendously in diagnosing this as the temps will rise well above normal when there are issues with combustion or exhaust restrictions.

The 91 does not have a cat. Since I need to replace the muffler anyway, maybe I should just do that and see where things stand.

Resonator was eliminated some time ago....so with a new muffler things should be nice and clean.

Hopefully your down pipe is ok I had to wait 3 months for a special run from the manufacturer to produce mine.
