'82 300CD, Saga of the disappearing transmission modulator pin. 722.3xx

So, my transmission was flaring from 3-4. So, I thought I'd turn the pin in the green transmission modulator over clockwise one step. The adjustment pin was stuck in there pretty good. To make matters worse, there isn't alot of space to work in. Does anyone know if the CDs have more sound deadener?

Anyway, when I finally got the pin just a little loose, it came flying out and disappeared into thin air. So, I guess I'll be upgrading to the improved style of modulator. Does anyone have pointer as to how to work in such a tight space?
