It's running! Hardly an blowby. This is a good engine. Needs a ton of work to get road worthy, but the drivetrain is solid!

Here is a video of the first start.

https://youtu.be/MVSMUkf5XoI

Current checklist...
Zero brakes, no hvac engagement (even defrost), no blinkers, probably all 3 motor mounts, maybe suspension, wheels and tires, driver rear window doesn't work, passenger door doesn't shut properly, cv boots cracked, diff oils, coolant, trans filter and fluid, oil and filter

Sunroof works great, radio and antenna works great.

I’ve pulled some parkers out of slumber a few times than I care to remember , it’s a joy to see someone willing to pull up their sleeves and get to work . You can start by making a list , brakes will definitely be apart of that . Don’t try to patch or ride on the calipers or pads . The rotors are a possible exception . To get started you’ll want two things from your purchase , does it run , then does it drive . You can answer the first by a compression test , read up on the service because it’s not very difficult to do and is part of ownership to know your car , you’ll eventually get familiar with all its components ,2nd is to top off the transfluid once running but make sure theirs at least some on the stick before starting .The longevity of time parked should require you to soak the rings and cylinders with marvel mystery oil before startup , it’s a precautionary step , 4 ounces in each cylinder and let sit a few days . It will be able to go another 200 k with proper maintenance.

The blinkers May come back if you just leave them in the on position awhile , also you can go to the fuse box , locate the fuse for anything not working and rollit back and forth to help the connection . The metals are different and interact with each other over time . Also theirs the love tap to the rear light , shakeout the cobwebs . Rearend fluid change , tranny fluid change with new filter , oil and filter , air filter , brakes , tires , wiper blades , valve adjustment , run it for a daily for year , enjoy !

Thanks! I was hoping to reuse the calipers. I have the wheels pulled, and soaked everything in penetrant oil. O have a load ($900 worth) of parts arriving from yesterday through next week. Pretty much everything rubber is toast.

Brakes including hoses, pads, rotors amd fluids. We'll see how the calipers, master cylinder and booster are.

Suspension, everything including shocks (not coils)

Rear axles (boots were cracked). Will put new fluid while in there.

Coolant

Trans filter and fluid

Oil and filter

Lower oil cooler line

Motor and trans mount

Thermostat and seal

Still figuring out what to do for wheels. Still need to go check out a guy selling some chrome bundts. May strip amd polish the centras that were on it.

I have other very nice parts for a W123 coupe. Let me know what you need and I will check to see if I have it. I have owned 4 coupes, 3 sedans, and 1 wagon over the years and have accumulated a lot of parts.

Thanks Bill. I weeded out much of my parts 2 moves ago. None were coupe specific anyway as this is my forst coupe. . It's cosmetically pretty darn good. Which is why I bought it. I can do the mechanicals, but didn't want to mess with cosmetics. So far, only.cpuoe specific I can think of...I may need a rear driver window regulator. Could be just the track. Haven't investigated yet. I'll let you know.

Also, how is the rear bumper rubber attached? I never paid much attention on my other cars. I have the rubber, but it is detached from the metal.

Thanks John. Shipping would probably be too much to even consider that route.

Put the first new piece on today. New door strike. Only about 100 more parts to go.

Get a 27mm socket on the crank and turn it over fully maybe 5-10 times.

Does the glow plug relay work?

What do you hear when trying to crank?

Thanks. Already got it started. There was an aftermarket alarm system wired into the starter wire. Looks like there was a kill switch in the glove box. Or should I say engage switch.

While we are on the topic. The glow relay is working. I can hear it clicking on and off. But the light in the cluster is not illuminating. I've swapped bulbs with the known working seat belt bulb, still nothing.Assuming this means I have a bad (or mulitple) glow plug. Will test them at some point.

Also, went to the parts yard this morning hoping to score some sheepskin covers on a 240d brought in Wednesday. Was too late. One tire was good, but not worth buying just one. Grabbed a few other things. Hazard swith off an 83SD. My switch was missing a cover. Turns out the switch was unplugged and plugging it back in with the new switch resolved the blinkers. So blinkers are now working!

Also took apart the rear left window switch (the one up front.) Cleaned it and put it back together. Now the rear window works with this switch. Should have grabbed the SD's rear switch covers. I remember seeing them in good shape. 2 of mine are worn. Next time.

Can't get the overhead light working. Bulb showed continuity across. Voltage at the wires.

Much of my parts are coming in. Waiting for all to get started on suspension, brakes, rear axles, etc.

Thumbs up ! SCORE !

Not my favorite color but wow, this one is nice .

Go slowly here, do all the various service items it needs, you'll love this once on the road .

That is the plan. Currently working on the rear end. Have old axles out. New axles, diff mount and brakes going on hopefully tomorrow.

I really like the color. There are a couple of colors I'd prefer first, but it's good.

If it wasn't in such good cosmetic shape, I would have passed.
