AC hose issue...83 240d
 

I just installed a new compressor on my 83 240d and in need of the 2 hoses coming out of the compressor as they are leaking. Can't seem to find them. Would universal hoses work or since the r4 is a GM compressor would any GM hoses work? The dealership said they no longer are being made.

If you have a Thermoking or something similar would be your quickest bet

I have the part numbers from the dealership but no measurements.

I don't want to go with used for now as I don't want any issues with leaking

Probably going to have them made. If you find NOS ones the rubber will probably be ancient.

Turned out it wasnt the hoses.
The shop put the vompressor in without the spacer for the stepped ports...

I finally have Ac!!!! First and foremost I would like to thank Vstech aka John. The GURU of AC on w123!!!!!!
He was a huge help through the process of answering any questions I might have. My system was all original with the r12 valves still on the hoses. Basically, I replaced the r4 comp with a new 4 seasons r4 and the drier. I didn't have the tools and machine to do the job so my local mechanic neighbor did it for me with my guidance.... flushed the system and vacuum i went lwith 134a as I don't have access to any r12 at the moment. The original condenser and expansion valve and switches on the drier and it works fine.
Now, the issue I have is that most mechanics here in the US have no clue about mercedes cars, let alone a diesel benz. I have seen this first hand for the past 30 plus years I have owned a diesel mercedes. Having to tell your mechanic what he is doing wrong and paying him on top of that is just something I find difficult to accept but thanks to this forum and the info you gain from the the posts is invaluable.

Does the Ac cool good? Hard to really say. When it gets to be 90 plus and humid I would say no as it's cool and not cold. Reading this forum for years I know 134a in these old cars just doesn't really do a good job cooling the car. I accept that and as long as it keeps me comfortable while driving it will do.
Now, should I have gone with r12 and or the sanden comp and bracket and so on?? I didn't want to break the bank on this one as I only paid 3k for the car.

I used Duracool in my w123 and w124. Lower head pressures made the compressors very happy. Duracool also had the cooling efficiency of R12. Going R12 would be best, but since I had issues finding it and/or affording it, I went with the Duracool. Envirocool is the same type stuff as Duracool.

I now have a 99 w210 Turbo Diesel. It uses 134, and blows very cold.
