Shop Replaced Cigar Hose with Regular Hose
The shop finally got done attempting to fix the transmission they put in my 300D, which is a whole other story. While they had it, they noticed the cigar hose weeping and they replaced it, but they used regular hose. Now I notice my idle is "knockier" than it was, more like before I replaced my injectors. Is this just a coincidence, or does the cigar hose have some effect on idle quality? I searched but I didn't find much.

Yes it is probably from using regular hose. I was told, not learned from personal experience that the cigar hose softened a pulsing noise.

I saved a few of those hoses if you need one.

Never mind. The engine blew yesterday. I'm done. See Craigslist or Facerbook marketplace if you want the car.

May this post serve as a warning about the importance of the cigar hose.
|
The w124 and newer don't have a cigar hose, correct?
|
Skippy, So sorry to hear about your car. Any idea what happened?
Of course, we know it wasn't the hose. |
What is blown on the engine?
|
It looks like it jumped timing. There was a thud and it quit running. It put a crack in the cam cover where the cam gear is. However, when attempting to start, the camshaft still turns.
|
If it jumped timing its not a cigar hose issue.

My w124 doesn’t have one but that doesn’t mean much. |

Yeah, classic vacuum pump device failure... Often repairable, but time consuming. |
Cigar hose? Where does this run from/to? Is this an automatic transmission thing?

What occurs and how might it be prevented? |
