Has anyone delt with this?

My new to me 84 300SD is missing the carrier bearing mount for the drive shaft. The whole carrier bearing is there but the mount for the bearing itself is rusted
away. It's odd cause it's not a very Rusty car. Has anyone had to deal with this? I was going to make up a mount but thought I would ask if there's a better way.
Thanks.

Sounds like it just needs a new center support?

It does. But it's missing the upper part of the support that's connected to the drive shaft tunnel or body of the car. There's nowhere to bolt on the new carrier bearing.

The support is the part that comes off and can be replaced. Are you speaking of the part on the chassis that the support bolts on to is rusted out and gone?

OK, ignore my previous post. I have not read of this happening to anyone.

I think the fix would involve some welding.

Needs pictures.

Do the rusted holes go through to the interior of the car.

Sounds like you need both Item 74 and Item 32 as shown on the attached EPC link.

It's interesting that the floating nut plate (Item 74) is shown in the EPC, but not in the exploded view in the Service Manual. A close look at the photos in the manual reveals the nut plate however.
The question here is whether the nut plates were lost during a previous service of the center bearing, or if the welded structure of the floor has rusted away to the extent that the pockets into which the nut plates are inserted no longer exist.

Yes number 74 is what I need. I haven't had a chance to get up on a lift I only stuck my head in there as best I could. I'm getting it up on the lift hopefully tomorrow.
