access to blower motor on 126/SDL - help.

I am trying to follow the instructions in the service manual, but they are a little mixed up. I am trying to get the under dash panel out from the passengers side. This is the carpeted plastic piece that your shins/knees can touch when sitting in the seat.

1. Glove box interior removed- done, easy, though I am not exactly sure why it is required.
2. Three philips screws that hold the under dash panel to the dash removed.
3. One plastic square screw, turned 90 degrees and removed from center console.

What else am I missing? The panel won't come out, and I can't see anything holding it. Any more yanking, and I think I will break some plastic.

Is there some trick??

You didn't need to take out the glovebox innards..

That carpeted peice is a bear to get in and out, you really have to work it out. There may be a few peices of plastic duct work attached to it, I don't remember exactly, but it all fits together like a puzzle.

Once you got that out, there are 6 screws to get in the blower assembly.

Be sure to hold the lower part, as the motor is attached to that part.

I believe there is one more fastener on the lower part of the panel on the passenger side. Then it should rotate down and out.

do I also need to take the carpeted side piece out?

I am unsure if I need to take out the carpeted side piece on the right of the footwell. If I do, I can't figure out how. Pry off? How?
