Oil Pressure Gauge

So on a recent 2500 mile trip I experienced an extreme adrenaline surge. I was on Interstate 81 running between 75 and 80 and since I have a CDL, I frequently watch my gauges. Suddenly while I was looking at the oil pressure gauge it, dropped from 3 bar to 0. Quickly coasted to the side of the interstate and shut it off. Checked the oil and it was right on the full mark. I am 800 miles away from home, what to do to determine what was wrong?

I looked into the oil fill opening and saw a lot of oil, so I didn't think it had lost the oil pump. To confirm, I loosened the 2 bolts holding the oil line to the top of the turbo and had cranked it with my underhood starter button. Immediately I saw much oil flow out so I knew it was a gauge or sending unit. Drove the rest of the trip with oil pressure sitting on 0. It's a little unnerving. Once home I replaced the sender and now back to normal oil pressure. 653,000 miles and still going!:)

Well, you right. I am not sure you can pull into some AutoZone and get a new sending unit and replace it on the spot.

It is wors on W123s because the gauge is mechanical. No sending unit.

No easy way to hook up a test gauge either.
