Replacing Injectors
I need to replace the diesel injectors on my '81 240D. The CD service manual mentions using a torque wrench to tighten the injectors properly. My question is, do I have to use a torque wrench? I've looked around and all the torque wrenches are around $80.00 to $110.00! I really don't want to spend that much on a tool I'll only be using very seldom. Can I get away with out it, or should I just let a shop install the injectors?

benzer,
I do not know what will happen if you do not torque it down to the proper spec but I can tell you that I have bought my first torque wrench for the job you are about to do and I love my torque wrench. I use it alot. On just about anything that I can get it at on the car. The job itself is easy. So why not save the money from the repair shop and buy a usefull tool with it. Just my thought. I would recommend a 10 lb to 100 lb 3/8 drive. Most applications dont call for huge torque specs that the big 1/2 inch drives calls for. One other thing, If you buy one be kind to it. They are easily broken if you use them for a breaking bar or general purpose ratchet. I just had my craftsman replaces with a husky for free at home depot. Sears would not refund it after 90 days. I just replaced my lower oil pan gasket and was leaking prior to getting the torque wrench. Now I have it torqued down rignt and we shall see tommorow if it leaks. One thing is for sure my torque by hand was off. In my opinion the wrench is a good tool to have bob c |
I will second that
This is the one tool that you will really use, again and again.
Even if you think you can ballpark it by hand without a torque wrench, using one will give you a piece of mind that the job is done right that you otherwise won't be able to get. |
