Help with coil spring compressor w123 1980
 

Help. I have this spring compressor and it almost fits in the hole above the coil spring . I'm planning to file or grind the hole bigger. Is this my best option? Thx Mike

The Chinese copies of the Klann coil spring compressor require you to enlarge the inside diameter of the hole in the spring perch in order for the top of it to fit through.

When I bought one of the copies and I found would not collapse all of the way and the thrust washer setup was arranged improperly.

You need to take it apart to inspect it and it needs to be well lubed/greased.

Thx Deisel911, I made the hole larger, then had a rough time inserting the disc's into the spring. I also kept bottoming out the compressor screw. Got it compressed and was able to change control arm bushing. Now I have figure out how to get the tools disc's out of the spring. Mike

This is picture of the coil compressor. You want to get the upper tool disk as high up the coil as possible. You can insert a disk in a wider middle area of coil and then spin it around to get it higher.

Use a Rachet wrench and not a powered tool to turn the shaft

A second thing is the internal screw shaft has to be centered when you start tightening. You have to have both disks oriented the same. Also watch out that the screw shaft does not bottom out on the lower plate that holds the coil.

Third thing, before you tighten the device. Go under the car and look under the spring and make 100% sure that the 3 spokes of the screw shaft are seated in the notches of the disc.
