I think I ran off fumes 1980 300d My beast was acting fussy that day. No power, a sputter ever now and then. When I filled it up, it took 20.5 gallons diesel at $2.97 per gallon. 10/20/25 Gas gauge sort of stops at 1/4 tank.... |

yeah that's cutting it a little too close. lol |

Easier to watch trip mileage gauge. When you hit 200 miles, refill. |

Clean your sending unit. It comes out of the tank by removing the first aid kit. Once you get it removed, it comes apart easily and you will find that it is full of gunk that keeps the float from going all the way to the bottom. You can even clean the contact for the low fuel light while you are in there and perhaps get that working again. Its easy and satisfying, just be careful to not break the wires. |

The trip odometer Reset button is broke and I have to use math to get weekly miles. The gauge works ok if I refill right when it hit 1/4. I must have brain farted and forgot how long I was at 1/4. Fuel went back up to $3.30, bummer. I was pretty happy that it only cost $60 to fill it up. I will check out the tank sending unit. |

Shadetree - silly question but any chance this works on a 1981 300SD? |

I believe so. The sending unit designs on all mercedes I have worked on have been the same. Only the length is different. |
