What do we call the foam attached to floor mats?

Germans call it Schaumstoff (foam) Formteil (molding) ohne Teppich (without carpet): https://mbzclassicparts.com/en/collections/gummimatten/products/w123-s123-sedan-t-modell-schaumstoff-formteil-set-vierteilig-neu

which doesn't seem too far off from what I call it... "that foam stuff on the bottom of the carpet floor mats".

I think my main question is whether anyone is aware of where this might be sold stateside?

I'm actually very impressed they even sell that stuff! I just hope it's not some cheap overpriced knockoff version of the original. In that case, I'd rather just use the heaviest, thickest jute padding I could find. My E has heavy jute on the back of the carpets to substitute the hairy **** that was originally there. It makes the carpet feel amazingly plush and luxurious!

If you buy it or find it stateside, please come back and let us know if it's junk. Would not be the first time I've been sorely let down by the aftermarket part sellers.

In my W124, I have a water intrusion where the water collects in the passenger footwell. That foam stuff soaks it up...I replace with towels and bring it inside to dry...then put it back.

One of these days I'll have my auto body guy chase down the leak...but until then...

Mercs and water leaks are nothing new. My w220 liked to leak in front of the windshield. It traveled down some wires to the floor where it ended up under the back seat and took out a SAM.
