Gear Shifter Noise

I have a 1978 300D. There is allot of play(I'm able to push it down and up) in the gear shifter when it is in drive. Also the gear shifter vibrates while driving. Is this a easy fix? If so, how I would go about doing this?

Thanks,

Sounds like the rubber grommets in the selector rod (from selector lever to gear box shift lever) have worn out. They are available from the MB agent for less than a $. Just remove the spring clip and push them in.

It's easier to remove the lever on the tranny to get the bushing in, they fit tight are are rather hard. Grease helps, too.

They are normally missing on these cars if they haven't been replaced yet.
