Talking Diesel Purge

I just ran the Lubro Moly diesel purge through my 1980 300D.
WOW! This stuff is magic! It was even easier to do than I thouht it would be. I was getting some grey smoke and a sweet diesel smell at cold start-up, indicating unburned fuel, now at cold start-up almost no smoke at all, and a regular diesel smell. I will be using this every 6 months as recomended.

How did you run it through your system? Did you fill a new fuel filter or did you run your fuel lines into the can?
I read the directions on the can. Can you just remove the small in line fuel filter and run the suction line into the can?
I thought it would be easer to just fill up the large fuel filter and drive on. Ken

Where can you get the Diesel Purge? I'd like to try it on my '85.

One other thing that people may be interested in is SeaFoam. I haven't tried it in the Benz yet (haven't changed the oil yet, although it's about due), but I've used it in the truck a few times. I just pour it in at the auto parts store, drive home, and change the oil. After doing this two or three times, my truck's oil, after about 2500 miles, is cleaner than most diesel oil is after 5 miles. It literally looks like I just poured it out of the bottle. Only diesel I've seen where the engine oil isn't black as coal dust.

Not affiliated with the product or anything; just figured I'd pass it along.

I too am highly interested in using it. Though I am unsure what fuel lines to disconnect... if someone knows please let me know! I want to keep my baby running, and running like new!

One thing, I used a clear glass jar, so that I could see the fuel level, and run it as low as possible but not run it out.
I set the jar on the flat spot by the fender well on top of the drivers side coil spring, then secured it with a strap so I wouldn’t have to hold it the whole time. The lines were easy, 1) I disconnected the incoming fuel line from the tank at the plastic fuel filter (opposite the pump side) this is the inlet side. On my car it was the straight-in nipple, not the one at 90 deg. I plugged the rubber line from the tank, and installed a 2 ft. length of fuel line back on the filter. This line became the fuel pick-up and set in the bottom of the jar. 2) I disconnected the large diameter rubber return line that originates near the top of the spin-on fuel filter, and goes back to the fuel tank. I unclamped it where it connects to the hard metal tubing back to the tank, the section in my car was long enough to set in the jar, this line returned unused fuel back to the jar. Once I did this, I started the car, and watch over it, occasionally changing the engine speed. It was interesting to see how much fuel was returned back into the jar! After about 25 minutes, the jar was all but drained. I re-connected the return line, and removed the temporary pick-up linen and re-connected the supply lines. Back to normal. I found the Diesel Purge locally at a German Car Repair shop. I had wondered about where to get it , then tried this shop that also had parts, and they stock all Lubro Moly, I am going to try the Hi-Test now

I will be doing it next week on both my MBs when I am home on vacation.
Here is a great link with pictures to expand on rob_frick's nice explanation:

That is an easier way of doing it Ken. The problem is that the unused purge is just pumped back to the fuel tank where it's diluted by the Diesel fuel, so you don't really get the full benefit. Check DieselDaddy's link for the picture, follow that and you'll find that it is really not a difficult procedure at all. And if you use a glass jar you'll be amazed at the filth you see!
