Well I went to change my prefilter and I saw the Hand Primer Pump was leaking, then I remember I read on here that air can get in there and cause misses on idle. So went to Fastlane and ordered one (very fast delivery) then replaced it, the car ran smooth no rough idle.

Then I went to change the oil in this car which it had the same 20w50 in it for about 3 years (was not my fault, car was not taken care of. But I'm bring it back to life, Also it was a gift for my first car and probably my last car I will ever need ) Change oil, Roalle T 15W40 with new oil filter, and the car has changed, it Tachs out longer and just has more get up and go. This has made me feel alot better since everytime I went to fix something there was another problem, it never ends

I have been using 20-50 fleet oil (purple lable - too lazy to go check)changing every 3K miles or so...getting very good results.

I had a leak around the top of the primary fuel filter...only thing that stopped it was a new copper washer...nearly drove me crazy...have to change every time I change filters or ot will leak again!

Problem:

I have an 83 300D...tach operates intermittantly...I can't seem to find how it is connected to the engine...suspect a loose connection...any ideas?

Supposedly the tach pickup is located on the bell housing (immeadiately in from of transmission), though which side and exactly where is unknown to me.

Ball joints and steering issues prevent me in getting to it...

If you find out exactly where and what color the lead is, please post.

Did your leaking hand pump cause any smoke? I've been working a smoke at idle problem on my 300D and I know the hand pump is shot because when you try to use it, it leaks very badly.

Not that I recall Joe, but I remember one time I just started up my car and got out, and saw some white smoke, but since I've had the pump I never seen any smoke. It could have been that I just started the car that cause the smoke at idle who knows. But it wouldn't hurt to replace the old pump for the new one, it's alot easier to use and looks alot better then that yellow pump that would just stick out from everything else.

Also you need to replace it, because if you need to change your fuel filters or you run out of fuel, you won't be able to prime your engine. You probably would be pumping more fuel out of the pump then you would through the engine (that's what my old pump did).

It sounds like you still have the 1st version fuel filter housing with the 22MM wrench size hollow screw. Your frustation will be over for about $35 if you replace it with the new 24MM wrench size version. One day when you change the filter you won't be able to stop the laek with a box of seals.
