'82 4 speed turbo diesel for sale

Gentlemen,

If you know of anyone looking for a 300 Turbo Diesel, you might want to direct them to my son's car which for sale on Ebay.

It's his baby which has a four speed and lots of other goodies. He's selling it because his Silver '83 Intercooled/Turbo Diesel, 4 speed is almost ready to go and he can't drive both.

Ben

4 speed

The fourth gear on the Mercedes 4 speed is 1:1. On the 5 speed, if you can get one fifth gear is .82:1.

Just curious, what is the 0 to 60 time on a manual tranny? I have wondered what difference it would make.

Thanks

4 speed conversion

How do you do a 4 or 5 speed conversion. It looks very interesting to me. I would love to do it to my car!!! Any information you can supply would be much appreciated.

Speed and Trannys

We've never actually done a 0-60 MPH test but as we're very, very close to completing our intercooled 300DT, we'll probably do one at a local race track. The fact that one doesn't have to get a printed invitation to cross an intersection certainly makes us believe the 0-60 is seconds shorter than the auto.

Anyone considering dropping a manual tranny into a 300DT should begin collecting the transmission, shift mechanism and linkage from under the car. Next you'll need the 240D pedal assembly and a 300D flywheel or a 115 300d flywheel.

The only things that need alteration are, the length of the 240 linkage from under the car, shorten by 4 inches and keep the two ends in alignment while rewelding and the drive shaft needs shortening and rebalancing. Use the 300DT driveshaft when shortening, etc.

Everything except the linkage and driveshaft is simply unbolt the old and bolt in the new.

Start collecting.

300D flywheel?

Where can you get a 300D flywheel? Will a 240D flywheel work? Is there any issue with the speedometer calibration? Thanks for the reply!!

Intercooler

What type of intercooler did you install? Where did you put it, and how do you plumb it in? Do you have any pictures? I think the modifications you are doing are great!! Thanks

Questions, questions

Dieselnation,

Flywheels can be scared up at local junkyards. I located three 300d, 115 flywheels that I'm picking up for my future conversions.

Intercooler pictures, etc. will appear here soon. The intercooler conversion is looking so neat that one might think it was a Mercedes option.

Question

Just curious: What did your son pay to have the front half of the drive shaft shortened? Did you use a heavy duty (kevlar) friction disc?
My conversion, including an entire 240D parts car, came to about $1100 and probably 30+ hrs. of my time. The most frustrating part was that the flywheel bolt heads on the 300D were oxydized and stripped quite easily; I ended up having to drill out three of them!
By the way, I used the 240D flywheel for the conversion and am unable to notice any additional vibration - I really don't think there to be any ballance issue...
Now I'm trying to figure out how to use the 240D cruise control.

240D flywheel

dzldog,

Saw your thread on 300DT intercooler pictrues.

I ran my first conversion to manual mistakely for over two years using a 110 flywheel. When I was a kid back in the stoneage, we commonly lightened the flywheels on our Model A 4 bangers with overhead valve heads. In 1957 no stock Chevy V-8 could take us in a three block downtown drag.

A lighter flywheel will give you quicker windup on a gas engine so maybe the same on a diesel. Most importantly, did you line up the balance marks on both the flywheel and crankshaft?

If you're ever of the mind, a 115 flywheel off a 300d will work as it's the same weight as the 300D. We're scouting up one for our "Super Diesel" and have found a place that has three 115s, so let us know if you want one.

ON TO SUPER DIESELS!!!!!!
