zbenz,

my car is a '85 300CD but I believe the engines are essentially the same.

nothing problematic to doing this. make sure the thermostat faces the right way. be careful to get gasket in correctly.

different thermostats apparently can result in different operating tempatures. I read that some people change them more than once using different brands because they don't like the tempature. I bought mine from fastlane (here) and have no complaints.

Also, every time I mess with my radiator the car's tempature acts weird for a while when I restart. Must be air in the line (at the thermostat?). Can get pretty hot before settling down. I don't know how to prevent this. Just keep an eye on it at first.

Thanks

Thank you both. I did it this afternoon. As I thought it had broken and was stuck open. better than shut. I thought one of the bolts wasn't comming out, but a little prayer and out it came. I didn't replace the bolts but I did chase the threads with tap and die. No problems with the temp. Thanks again

any ideas on getting a seized one OUT BEFORE it snaps off? ive got one that even using a six sided socket the exact size it still stripped out on me before turning. I guess my only option left is to get a good, new pair of vice grips, heat the eninge, up, spray a can of WD-40 on it and pray right?

There are a lot of spray and liquid like Liquid Wrench and PB Blaster, etc ... they do seem to work - give them an hour or two ... WD 40 just makes things shiny.
