cruise amp location

I have an early 1984 190D, 5 spd. and need to know the location of the cruise control amp. I need to take it out and have it resoldered. TIA, Ernie

Thumbs up CC amp location

Not sure of your particular model but it probably is under the dash to the left of the steering column. Silver aluminium box approximatley 4"X6"X1" You most likely will need to remove the under dash trim to get at it. Probably a good idea to disconnect the battery negative cable before poking and prying around inside the dash. Good Luck!

You will probably need more than a resolder job. I tried that on mine and it didn't make much difference. Rebuilts are available from $150.

The Performance catalog shows the amp in the area of the glove box. They also mention something about a "coding part", (what ever that is?). They say you need to order one of them also.
Why don't you call Phil at Fast Lane (click on the tab at the top of this page) and ask him for the part number of the amp, then you'll know it's the right part when you see it. Phil can probably get you what you need at as good a price as any one. (Support the site)

where?

There seems to be different opinions on just where the cruise amp is on an early '84 190D 5spd. I would like to go directly to the amp rather than disassembling several spots on the car. I am taking the amp to my brother who works at an electronic R&D lab. They recondition circuit boards quite often. Thanks, Ernie

Sorry, I can't tell you anymore on the 190E. We have one, but haven't been into the cruise amp.
I could take you to the amp on the W123's with my eyes closed. I'm having fits with one right now, can't make up my mind if I should try the resolder trick (tried it once before and couldn't find any thing, so I resoldered everything possible..no luck) or just get a rebuilt one.
Once you open it up, the rebuilder won't accept it as a core.
Good hunting, would like to know where you find your amp. If your brother can do some good and needs another one to keep him busy, let me know.
Ernie
