Adjusting shifting 83 240D
I have the replacement for a suspected bad trans modulator valve but there doesn't appear to be any adjustment to it. The accompanying note warns adjustment may be needed.
How does one adjust the shifting vacuum for the 83 240D?

There is a rubber plug on the modulator next to the vac connection. Underneath is a little " handle -- you turn this to adjust the modulator.
You cannot adjust the vac except to replace the valving mechanism on the valve cover or IP. Peter

Didn't realize some assembly is required!
To avoid mistakes, What happens when it is turned clockwise?

I think it is the "back" spring adjustment, so one way will make it act as if it had more vac, the other way as if the vac was lower. I'm sure someone else has done this (use the search for "modulator" or "modulator adjustment") and see what they have to say. Mine works well enough as it is, don't want to play with it. I get some double shifts (2-3-4) at light throttle, not a big deal. Better than the slamming I was getting before I fixed the vac!
