Cruise Control on 81 240D

I recently purchased a 81 240D, it has the Cruise Control items under the hood but can't seem to find the controls in the cockpit. Are they by chance on the Turn signal/wiper stick? Nothing there that mentions anything related to Cruise control. Gosh I don't like looking stupid????
Help?

Thanks
Hugh

Hugh Either the PO took the control stalk off or it never came with one. I think I would also check under the dash to see if the control unit is there. I have heard in other post that someone else had the same problem. I have a 81 240D with the cruise control stalk right next to the turn signal on the column.

Thanks for your reply and info. I will look under the dash for the unit.
Again, Thanks

My 240D was in the same shape. The previous owner removed the control stalk and discarded (2 screws hold in place). After checking out the actuator, I found that it was dead and I have not been able to repair it. The amplifier is under the steering wheel on top of the kick panel.

My guess is when the actuator or amplifier die, rather than spend big bucks to fix, some folks just want to remove the evidence that the car even has cruise control.

Majority of the cars on here don't have a working CC. Mine doesn't! It hasn't worked right since day 1, or so the PO said.

I may have an extra actuator for a 240D.. not sure if its for manual, or auto. I can check if you want.

Larry,

I would be interested in purchasing your actuator, if it would fit my car. It's an 82 with electric motor type actuator. Not sure if the auto and manual ones are different. Mine's manual. I bought a used stalk, but never installed it, because the actuator won't work.

I'm sorry, but both actuators that I have are non-electric. If I happen to stumble across one, I will post, email you.
