Does anybody know if the oil filter cartridge on an '82 240D with the 616 engine is interchangeable with an '82 300SD with the 617 engine?

I have the '82 240D and a friend of mine will be picking up his new (new to him) '82 300SD this weekend and we will be changing the oil for sure. I happen to have quite a few oil filters for my 240D and would like to use one on his 300SD 300SD if it fits.
