w123 cargo nets on seat backs

okay... so almost everyone with their original cargo nets on the seat backs probably has them sagging. i was looking at mine the other day and figured it looks like it shouldn't be hard to take the net and pull it tight and then sinch it down under the plastic frame holding them on- thus making them attractive and useful once again.

so i went to attempt to remove my plastic frame. i could get the lower horizontal peice out but pushing it down and sliding a little arm out of the holes in the seat back. for the life of me i couldn't get the vertical peices out, especially at the top where the net attaches.

ANY ideas?! i NEED to be careful with this plastic frame as it is VERY expensive to replace- as in $200 or higher.

thanks a lot!
eric

I don't know how you remove the trim - sorry. I have read the secret to rejuvenating these things is to replace to top section - the saggy part - with fresh bungee cord. Just go to your local Home Depot or Lowes. They'll either have it in bulk, or you can purchase a few bungee cords and cut the ends off. The problem with your nets is the bungee material has lost its stretchness. If you just tighten it up, you'll have nets which still aren't very useful, though they won't sag any more.

If this is the same as on my 81 300TDT then if you remove the seat back panel (one little screw in the bottom) then you can see that the top of the plastic cover is actually screwed in from the back.
Now that you have the seat back off you can easily remove the top screws from behind.

EASY AS PIE!

that was the most easy thing i have EVER Done on my car. the replacement parts from MB are $200, i fixed this one for free!!!

thanks to you guys.

i went to lowes to look for bungee cord. all they had were those bright patterned colored type. so i didn't buy anything yet. im going to a craft shop that should have the right material. in the mean time i just took off that plastic frame, pulled the line tight and put it back on and it couldn't look better. good as new.

you guys rock thanks a millionn and ill keep you posted as to what i buy at the craft store.

Eric,
Are those protective covers I see above the headlights?
If so, where did you get them?

I want to touch up the chips but don't want to repeat every 6 months...

dieseldaddy

i just realized what you meant about the protective covers. i could not see what you were talking about until now. that's just a reflection on the paint of the car. ive seen my freind's 300SD with a plastic shield to protect the hood, though i think those are ugly and not worth it. id rather have a pitted hood tip than a plastic window.

if you notice in the picture i attached, all the pitting under the headlight and there's some above as well.

with that said, i know that new Volvo's come with a 3M product- a clear adhesive layer about 4 inches long and the width of the hood to protect that part of the hood from pitting. ive tried to track it down and was unsuccessful. but if you can find it, let me know!

you can buy and try for yourself, but i saw an interview on speedvision a couple of months ago - the guy was a "professional" installer of this stuff, and he warned against DIY. i know he has a business to protect, but i saw him lay this stuff down, and i sure wouldn't want to be the one to screw up the application.
