My road to better fuel economy
I've owned my 240D for about 9 years now. When I first got the car it would average about 26 or 27 MPG. It stayed pretty constant at that level until I adjusted the valves. I found 3 exhaust valves were tight. After the valve adjustment, MPG went to about 28.5. Recently, after adjusting the injection pump timing, it has gone to 31.5.
All of these number are with the same driving scenerios and all of the other variables held as constant as possible. Just my experience, I don't know if this will help anyone else or not. Joe |

No help. But I must compliment you on your sturdy mileage. I get around 30 in my '91 300D 2.5Turbo, but it's a much newer engine. Also, just put some Rotella T Sythetic in it. Perhaps it'll boost mpgs a hair.
Good luck.

When I first got my 300CD, it got about 30mpg, but has dropped to around 26mpg. I am thinking my injection pump timing is off, so I might adjust it sometime. I know the previous owner adjusted the valves and injector pump timing before I bought the car.
