Headlight Upgrade Advice

My W123 needs better eyes,,,,,or maybe I do now that I am approaching 50.

I don't want to convert to euro's, but are there any lights that I can just plug in, without re-wiring for better vision. I've read about hella H4's, and would like to know if they are an improvement.

Advice and source please.

Many thanks

JCD

The 7" Hella H4's are something worth buying. I have a set on my old Ford F-100 and they work great. They produce plenty of light, and no need for rewiring. One good sourse for these is Performance Products, but have seen them sold at many other places too.

Remember, there is no need to upgrade to higher wattage bulbs if you have properly aimed H4 lights. Headlight aiming is something often neglected and can make huge improvements.

I spent $85.00 on H4s and they are great. You wont beleive the differance. i use philips Plus 30 bulbs which are not over wattage but give plenty of light. Go for it, you wont be sorry

I forgot to mention that eBay is a great source for finding H4's. Just make sure that the cyrstal is not broken, and the reflectors are in good shape. I have seen some that have been cracked, and the reflectors were in bad shape, and have seen them that are brand new in the box.

Just replaced mine on the 85 300D to Hella 7" H-4. What a great improvement. Got them at Olympic Auto in Alexandria for under $100 a pair. Performance has them for a little more. There is another post on Euro Lights where someone gives a URL for a cheaper place. You may wnat to try that. No matter what, great improvement.

Just ordered a pair with bulbs from:

Susquehenna Motor Sports in PA.

$67 for all plus shipping = $75.

You can find the link by searching the other fairly recent post on a similar subject.

Put the Hella H4's in last night.

Took about 1/2 hour - 45 minutes. Pretty straightforward.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE.

Worth the $$$$$$.

I ran 7" Hella H4 sealed beam replacements for quite a while before getting the Euro lights from a parts car that I bought.

I think a good set of Halogen 7" sealed beams are not too bad and cheaper than the Hella's. But the Euros are the ultimate.

For my particular drive they're perfect. They not only offer better light, but also have a level control. I drive 20 miles of winding, narrow farm road every morning and evening, almost always in the dark, just to get to/from the highway. I have to worry about spotting Deer and escaped livestock. I can use the level control to raise the lights a notch or two until I reach the highway, then lower them to the regular highway level.

My $0.02,

'First time I turned my headlights on after installing 7" Hellas I threw so much light out front I thought I felt some braking thrust, i. e., thrust to the rear.
