Climate Control Question

Where does the hose (missing) that goes from the center of the dash go to? I see a thing that has a place for a tube possibly, it has a light blue wire and a brown with red tracer wire going into it on the front and a thermostat or heat sensing looking (non-insulated) wire coming out the back. It's on the passenger side. I found what was left of the tube.... there is a plastic part about 4 or 5 inches long left up at the dash.

Funny how cleaning out a car can progress to rewiring the stereo and how that can progress to trying to fix other stuff. I figure I might as well fix stuff that I find wrong as long as I'm in there.

Ok, never mind. Upon feeling around more I found where it goes. Is there a good reason that a foam tube was used or can I just connect the two pieces with a piece of plastic tubing or rubber hose?

Yep, that's what I was talking about. I went ahead and put it together with 3/4 inch heater hose, perfect fit over the ends and its free. I was just wondering if there was a reason that foam was used in the first place? Seems like a funky way to go for a car that is made so well to use something like that when a rubber or plastic tube could have been used. Thanks again for the help.

Use the foam pipe insulation. Anything else is too heat conductive to offer a true reading to the sensor. It'll cost you all of a buck or two at Home Depot.

Good luck,

This is great information, my foam tubing fell apart a few months ago. I was sure if the plumbing stuff would work, but now I know.

Hmmmm.... looks like I need to find some foam tubing. The hardware stores here will undoubtedly NOT have what I need. Thanks.

I got my foam tubing today, and I seemed to be able to find the right size, as for the employees of the store were not able to locate it. It wasn't even located in the plumbing section, but near the hardwood section. I am wondering now if I should use some duct tape on the foam. I am also wondering if it would be a good idea and use that foam on the pipes that that go to and from the A/C Servo in the engine compartment.
