would a 300d transmission work in a 300sd?

since the transmission in my 81 300sd is gone i have been on the lookout for a new transmission when i came across a 78 300d transmission, would it work in my 300sd?

I don't think it will, try looking for a newer model similar to the one that your 81 300SD uses.
