A day of progress
I replaced my starter, motor mounts, motor mount shocks and shock mounts all in 2 to 2 1/2 hours - I was impressed.
I did everything on the passenger side except the mount itself, it looked like it would be way too hard to get the hex bolts on top of the frame as the turbo is right above it, like 4" above the bolts. Some gear in my starter actually threw out a chunk of gear and cracked the casing. I think I'm out the $75 core charge.. ![]() |

All that in 2 1/2 hours?
I'm impressed. It would take me that long to figure out what tools I need. Congratulations. Sorry about the core charge.

There is something wonderful about the feeling of accomplishment you get when you finish a really nice DIY job. I think it may really be the feeling of good stewardship knowing that you just put hundreds of dollars back in your pocket instead of your dealer or indy. Good Man.

Yeah. Too bad it still came to $400 in parts plus $25 for overnight shipping. The joys of owning a 15 year old benz!

TurboD, The passenger side mount is easy. I did it on my in 5 minutes. You will notice if you get the shock mount s as a kit, the stud that holds the shock "looks" like it is too long, but actually it is made that way so you can install the new mount and shock from underneath the turbo. Basically, you connect the top mount before you even get underneath the car.

Yes, I already did the shock and shock mount on the passenger side. I was taking about the motor mount itself. It looks -really- difficult to get the top bolts on the actual motor mount.

Shoot, can't help you there, I had the shop do the mmt's. I believe it's the driver's side that gets the most wear...somebody correct me if I'm wrong. However, everything works together if you know what I mean so I wouldn't let the pass side mmt go forever.
