my first brake replacement - what else do I need?

After rebuilding the front end on my SDL, I finally had it alligned yesterday. The tech said that I should probably get new rotors, we measured 0.92 inches(what are those?) and compared to a reference that he had that said 1.0 inches. Plus there was a pretty healthy rim on the rotor. I later looked up on the CD for the 126, and it looks like 25.4 mm is minimum rotor thickness.

So I am going to do my first brake job.

Does anyone know what else I need to complete this job besides
- rotors -2
- pad set
- anti squeal paste

?????

I was thinking maybe an extra bleed screw or two.

Are new wear sensors/cables needed?
Do I need any pins or the like?
Anything else?

Lastly, anyone know the torque of the bolts that hold the rotor to the hub?

thanks all,

alec

Just did same on my SD, and don't imagine your SDL is any different. Besides what you've listed, I got new sensor wires at $1.29 ea(you need 4 for the front end). I DIDN'T get, but wished I had, new calipers. Both are seeping fluid that I didn't see until I took everything apart. Now I have to go back in and put those on. Of course, yours may be just fine. These calipers are of the dual piston type, and the outer pistons on mine are seeping. It's just enough to not be dripping on the ground, but when I took them off to replace the rotors, I saw it was wet around the seals. So, you may want to take a real close look before you get into it and see if you see anything.
I had a bugger of a time gettng the calipers back on with new pads and new rotors. Everything became a real tight fit. But finally got 'em back together, and they work great now.
Other then that, good luck!

Good advice Rick. If you can afford it, always go with new calipers. The brakes will work better and will definately last longer.

I am not exactly sure. I am under the impression that you will want to plan on a front wheel brg remove/clean/repack job when you replace the front rotors. This is a diyer job. Once you do a couple of the MB brgs it is pretty easy. Based on mileage - I would pull the bearings, clean them real good and inspect them closely. If you see any discoloration or marks on the bearing surfaces (rollers/race) then just replace them. Bearings are cheap - get the numbers off of the side of them and take that number to an industrial bearing supply house. Same for the seals.
