190D2.2Head gasket

Help have an 85 190D 2.2 and am doing a head gasket replacement. Have everything loose but can figure out how to remove chain and gear away from head. Need advice for someone who has done this.
Thanks Dan-South Jersey

If it's the original chain you will need to grind two studs off the chain link and take off the chain that way.

If you're not replacing the chain, don't break the links.

With the tensioner off the head there should be enough slack to pull the chain off the cam sprocket. To remove the tensioner, use the bigger hex close to the cylinder head, not the smaller hex at the far end of the tensioner. Don't forget to put timing marks. Let the chain drop into the block. It won't go far.

If you remove the fixed guide rail, you might be able to leave the cam sprocket zip tied to the chain. I wanted to try this but I couldn't get the guide rail out so I left it on for the machine shop to remove.

Don't forget the two allen head bolts at the very front of the head.

Good luck.
