Janko,
Look on the inside of the rim. It is cast there if the rims are OEM MB wheels. You may have to clean off the brake dust to find it. It also gives the offset in mm. P E H |

I believe the rim width is 6.5". Can not confirm but it is strictly from memory. Being that you are ordering tires only, the rim width will not really matter on tire size as long as you are not going to really wide tires. Henry

peh, thank you. did go over the spare and could not find any markings on the stock alloy. henry, hope you are correct. the 6.5" cross section would be even better. i did order tires considerably wider than stock and will need at least a 6" wide rim. i am very impulsive and scatterbrained. order tires. then ask for rim width! thank you both.

Janco,
If its a MB OEM wheel it will be there as its cast into the inside of the wheel. It will also give the PN of the wheel. Look again, its near the outer holes in the wheel between the ribs. You must clean off the dirt to find it, its not a large impression. P E H |

Almost all the 300s on W123 bodies came with 6 X 14, BUT
there are a lot of 6 1/2 X 14 which look identical on the long wheelbase V8 equipped W116 cars, and after so many years, you may not have a full set of your car's originals any more.
If your rims are ET30, as I would expect, and you attempt to put anything wider than a 225/60 on them, you may find the sidewall rubbing on the rubber boot of the tie-rod end. Even the 225/60s sometimes touch the tie-rod end under the kind of cornering which shifts the sidewall inward. |

mr. fit, indeed it is the 225/60 that i ordered. i know i subject myself to much possible criticism for such a selection, but the deed is done. thank you.

Hey, I'm running Michelin 225/60 myself, and happy with them
but after the first 6,000 miles, I switched the original 6" rims over to 6 1/2" and then added 6mm spacers to regain the sidewall clearance, plus a little extra.
Some of the Bundt Cake rims on early '80s SL and SEL V8 cars are ET25 rather than ET30, so they wouldn't need the spacers, but mine came from an old W116 6.3.. |
