300TD cargo cover/doggy net

okay, i have the factory TD cargo cover and doggy net. as nice as the design is, question about its functionality.

does anyone else have the problem of it hitting the rear support columns when the cargo cover is extended and you open the tailgate? mine rubs up against those rear support columns, and im afraid one day it will tear!

by the way, my dog sneaks around the net by force, so it doesn't do much good!

eric

ps- if you'd like a picture i can take one and post it

I believe the "doggie net" is not intended for that use. It's actually a cargo net that's designed to keep cargo from flying forward in an accident and injuring a passenger. If you look carefully at the design you'll notice it can move in and out of the roller unless you apply force in the forward direction in which case the net catches on teeth at the edge of the roller and holds tight. Also notice that there is a second set of anchor points just behind the front seats so the net can be used with the rear seats down. Tell Fido nice try but no special points for getting around the cargo net. By the way, my cover rubs too but the design of the car is such that it would either rub or not cover the entire cargo area. I guess Mercedes choose to cover the whole cargo area on the theory that most people wouldn't use it very often.

My cover scrapes the side pillars too. As for your doggy problem, you could consider getting a larger dog(!) or tie his lead to the cargo strap anchors fitted to later models.

OK, now I am really jealous!
I have been looking for a cargo cover for my 81 TDT for a long time and have come up empty-handed...
The carpet in the cargo area over the 3rd seat is missing, and the palomino carpets are fading.

Anyway, where can I get one of those??

What's this look like?

Eric,

Since you offered, could you post a picture. I have an '85 300TD but have never seen this option.

BTW, Diesel Don, my interior is blue, if you still want to get rid of yours....

first of all

yes ill be more than happy to post a picture tomorrow sometime. but you need to know a couple things. perhaps not a huge deal.

just a cargo cover/net won't be enough. your car has to have the fittings to hold it.

basically what that involves are chrome brakets that are screwed into the back of rear seats, and black metal receptors for the net that are screwed into the headliner. ill try to take a picture of all of this. oh in addition for the cargo cover to be used, the tailgate has to have the hooks you attach the cover to.

post one soon

eric

JoelS:

Figure out a fair price for it and chop it in half. Mine's collecting dust.

Eric,
My TD has all the connectors, that's why I would like the cover.

Cool

Hey Eric,
I have a W124-300TDturbo of sept. '90, so 12 years old now and in dailly
use as is the cargo cover. Its also rubing the side pillars and in spite of
opening the rear 4/5 untill 20? times a day...it is still in good shape and
looking (allmost) brandnew as the pillars do!
So don't worry to mutch: the hole assembly cover/net and attachings
costed more than 1000$ in '90. It's not less than fair to receive some
(MB) quality instead!
Enjoy your cover/net as I do!
Danny.

TD Cargo Cover

Eric,

Thanks both for offering to post a picture and for giving background on what is required for installation. My wife and I had been talking over the weekend about getting something like that for occasions when our dog needs a ride. I know you mentioned that your dog still gets around yours, but our dog hasn't figured out after 2 years that she could easily hop our backyard fence - so I'm not too worried!

Don,

Thanks for your offer, too. If it's OK with you, I'd like to wait until Eric posts the picture to see what this looks like. Do you have the mounting parts aside from the cargo net?

Thanks again,
