Color matched side cladding?
Anyone ever seen a MB with the bottom side cladding painted to match the car's color?
...instead of the grey or brown that the plastic pieces normally are. ....just tossing the idea around. Not sure how it would even look.

Are you thinking of doing that to your W126?
I would try to find a 300SE/350SD and take out its lower body claddings and paint them all an off-white color. I mean something like this car! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1872060440 I don't like the monotone look on the 126 and midyr-124. I love the way they look with slightly different colored lower body panels. Of course there are exceptions (early 124's, 107's, 123's, etc)

Holson,
Excellent! That's perfect! I started thinking about it and came to the same conclusion....the cladding being the same exact color as the paint wouldn't look as good as something slightly offset. That light grey cladding looks great I think. That with the flatface wheels I will be getting gives me a perfect idea of what the car would look like....and I LOVE it Any ideas of how well the bumpers and the cladding's paint would hold up?? My only concern would be that the paint would come off too easily. another thought....I wonder if it would be cheaper to find a good set of used bumpers in this color and install them.... Chris |

Yeah I would just find used side claddings in that color but I would paint the front bumpers (if they are the same exact style, are they?).
I think as long as the paint is of high quality it would hold up perfectly. I mean how else do the 86 W126's paint hold up? I had some paint flaking off my 92 W124's lower panels near the tires. However I'm sure that was because the tire rubbed against it.

Bill,
Actually, I got a couple used panels from Fastlane for the passenger side ....pretty cheap too! All the other pieces are in what I'd call very good shape....def. good enuf that if they ONLY sanded down and painted, they'd look excellent when done. not interested in the headlight washers....they just don't do anything for me The third brake IS a project I've been interested in tho...I'll get that done sooner or later. Glad you brought up the rocker panel thing....from looking at that '91, I just assumed that the bottom section was painted the same color as the panels. On mine, the bottom section is that black stuff. So, it's actually a *cover* that attaches on there, huh? Intersting. I'll have to see how much those would go for new/used. Thnx Bill!
