1995 E300 diesel

My best friend in Atlanta just bought this car yesterday....

http://www.mariettasportscar.com/images/ebay/95-E300Dblack/1995_mercedes.htm

We came down to Atlanta last night to visit him and I got to check it out real good. It is really as nice as it appears. Very clean and super condition. The engine sounds very undiesel like. It was pretty darn quick too.

I did have one concern. At idle it has that side to side shaking we are so acustomed to in our old 123's. Is this a concern on this later model? Also what are some opinions on the timing chain? Does the same rule of thumb apply to this car as the 123's?

I told him to have it changed since he just dropped $15k for this lovely car.

Thanks

Joe,
How bout finding out what kind of people mariettasportscar were in dealing with. The reason I ask is that I see them all the time on ebay selling cars. From what I see on ebay they look pretty reputable and they do seem to have some pretty nice looking old diesels every now and then.
thanks

Nice to see you still hanging around Joe.

Just saw one of these at a fuel station yesterday. Very nice.

I bought my 87 300D from them. I traded in my 240D. Good group to deal with. They pick up cars from local trade in's and auction. Most of there cars will have high mileage or minor issues. They have been around for sometime.

The shaking is due to BAD motor mounts. When replaced, you can not hardly tell the engine is running. I just replaced them in my 95. Mounts cost about $100, free if you install or $150 for shop to install. Need to check vacuum pump. Replace at 150K no matter what. If it let's go, major engine repairs. Service transmission, change filters and enjoy the driving.

PS, the evaporator unit will go out if it has not already. The cost is $1600 to $2000 to replace. Also, there is a technical bullentin on the wiring harnesses. I had mine replaced with 105K on the car and MB did it for free. If the wiring is cracking, I would have this done ASAP, because there is a 100K limit in some cases.

Sweet Car

Nice Car,

My sedona is the same in a metallic brown-red. I should get the official mb colour name but havent done so yet. Must be aztec something I imagine. But the car runs well, the size and weight feel comfortable and is rather quiet. Though the engine seems a bit louder when cold weather settles in!

Best of luck with it, the pictures show a peach of a car!

Thanks ciscoholmes. I talked with my friend today and they took the car in for servicing. The shop replaced motor mounts like you said and did a total servicing of the vehicle. He also replaced a steering damper-shock. They said the engine was very strong and the car was well maintained. The shaky engine is what caused the steering damper to go out. They said. Anyway I will pass the wiring harness info along to him and see what RBM says.

Thanks!
