Found a nice 240D

I found a nice 81 - 83 creme 240D at a Mercedes-Benz dealership I am working with. It only has 91K actual miles on it, looks to be right, and the dealer wouldn't have it if it wasn't right (large mercedes dealership). It's an automatic, which sucks, in my book. From what I gather it could be bought for ~$3000, maybe less. I have no financial interest in the car, but I figure someone here may be interested. If anyone is interested I'll go snap some pictures of it. No rust from what I can see but I didn't look at it very long.

Turbo.....

Take some pics......or let me know which dealership. I need a car for my daughter.

Don't like the auto, but might we worth a look.

Too bad about the auto.

Have a great day,

Agreed, I can't figure the auto's in the 240D's

However,

I do have a back-up plan. I'm taking a serious look at Aaron's 1970 280SE, pic's arrive this weekend hopefully.

I might take the 280SE as my daily driver and let the kid's use the 300D, or vice versa.

This plan is contingent on my wife and kid's approval. They want a Honda of some sort.

I'd appreciate pix and more info...

Have someone seriously interested in one.

Aside from some weirdness in the upshift intervals, I have few bad things to say about the automatic...particularly if the engine's good.

Thanks very much

Ok guys, I will go to the dealership tommorow, snap a few pics and get a definate price.

turbodiesel 11-26-2002 08:25 PM

Sorry guys, I finally got to the dealer today and a dealer employee bought the car over the weekend.

I have also located a 1972 Euro 220D 4-speed with 92,000 KM. I drove it today and I am totally in love, I might buy it myself, I will keep you updated.

Oh man it's beautiful. Original paint, only one rust spot on the entire car, was not driven much since 1986, it belonged to an estate, and the man just passed away. It had brand new gum and candy in the glove box from the early 80's.

My dream car.....

I assume you bought it John..............Very nice. If not, it would be a perfect match for my 300D.

Well John,

DID YOU BUY IT.

IF NOT> LET ME KNOW AND I PROBABLY WILL

Ken300D 11-28-2002 10:51 AM

Is that cloth interior and does that tend to indicate a Euro model?

turbodiesel 11-28-2002 01:16 PM

I don't think I'm going to buy it, I let my heart get over my head for a few days. E-Mail me JCD and I'll fill you in. zemkowski@comcast.net

Yes, the cloth, euro bumpers, euro tail lights, lack of wood trim, german inscriptions and the KM/h speedometer all are tell-tale signs of a euro model.

I really like the bundt cake wheels on that car, was it an option? I like them better than the hubcaps.

The car just isn't practical for me, it's really slow, and I do alot of highway driving with alot of merging, so I need "some" power. It's also manual steering and no A/C. Yes, it would be a nice around town car but the fact is it wouldn't get much use. It's better off going to another diesel nut who can appreciate the car and drive it around, or store it and keep it in it's beautiful condition, and I don't have a garage to store it in.

IMO, the asking price is VERY reasonable for an all-original 72 220D with 65K miles. You know it must be if I was considering it.
