one last try at the window

The passemger side window won't go down. I'm prety sure its jammed. I have to door panel all off but im not sure what to do now. I tried taking those 3 bolts off to get the motor out but it seemed like the glass and everythig was going to come out. How can i just get to the motor to see if it is jammed and fix it?
thanks

When you press the window switch, what happens? Do you hear the motor trying to roll down the window? If so, the exact thing happened on my drivers window. I just used some PB Blaster penetrant to get everything lubed up and then greased all the runners with white lithium grease. Window still works perfectly 7 months later. If you have determined that the window motor is not getting power, than you have to work backwards thru the wiring to find the problem. Do you have power at the switch?? If so maybe there is a break in the wire at the door jamb where the wires come thru. A 12 volt test light is indispensible in this situation.

I'm pretty sure the power is getting to the motor. The dome light dims whe I hit the switch.

Ok, that would indicate that you have a simple jammed up crudded up drive regulator. Take the door apart and lube it up and see what happens. I'll bet its not the motor. They rarely go bad. New window regulator parts are available.

Sorry you already have the door apart. You can adjust the gear on the regulator to miss the gear on the motor and try the motor by itself. If it runs when you use the switch, you know that you have a stuck regulator assembly. Look at it carefully with a flashlight and an inspection mirror and you will see how it moves up and down. Lube the points that rub together. Readjust the gear drive and lube gears. See if that works.

When I bought my 79 300d The driver side rear window was stuck half way. I bypassed the switch and put 12 volts straight to the motor. Up it went. Bad switch. You can switch polarities to make the window go up or down. Hope this helps. CJ.

This is for Tank with regard to attaching those plastic pieces to the window regulator arm. I recently did exactly that on the two rear windows. The new plastic piece has a metal piece that sticks through the hole in the regulator arm, after you get the old one out (use a Dremel tool). The metal piece is made of very soft metal and you can peen it over with a ball-peen hammer so that it mushrooms out over the regulator arm hole. Continue peening it until it is firmly attached.

But carefully note:

Take the plastic piece apart and separate the halves BEFORE you peen the metal part over. One half of the plastic part needs to stay between the metal part and the regulator arm. Put a small washer or tiny metal plate beneath the metal piece so that when you hit the pin with the ball peen hammer, the force goes into the washer (or metal plate) and NOT through the plastic piece. (Don't ask how I know this). After you finish with the ball peen hammer, carefully reassemble the plastic piece and reinstall the regulator.
