BEG, BORROW, STEAL, ROB A BANK, do anything to NOT run out of Diesel, ask me how I know, Well anyway.

Loosen the compression nut at the injectors a couple of threads only or less so that when you crank the engine the diesel runs out on the side of the engine. DO NOT DO THIS IF THE ENGINE IS HOT OR THE DIESEL CAN DRIP ON THE EXHAUST. once you have the diesel flowing at full flow tighten the nuts down and crank it, it will start, it may stumble a bit first but will smooth out, if one of the nuts is hard to get at it will work the same on 5, but 4 if very iffy.
Good luck let us know how it works out.

You do not have to loosen the injectors.

TxBill said.... if the hand pump works you are OK.... if not, a new one is about $5. Pump the pump until you hear a air sound...then tighten the pump into original postion, pre-heat... then start your car.

If you loosen your injectors to purge the air... tighten them when fuel comes out... with the engine still cranking, so to not suck any air into the system. With engine still cranking go to each injector until fuel comes out... until engine starts.

I perfer the hand pump.

I would also replace the fuel filters, as sometimes you pick up some junk from the bottom of the tank when you run it too low or out all together.

While cranking you engine with your injector lines loose, you should get a spray of fuel at each injector. If not...you still have air in the system, or a fuel delivery problem. If you are getting fuel to the injectors it is not likely that all the injectors failed at once. What is the case here?? The engine has to crank quickly to start, and if the engine has been cranked a lot (weak battery) or the starter is dragging... it will not start ...not even in the Virgin Islands.

drew you need to please be more specific - please describe what you have done in respect to the above suggestions and are you sure the battery is full charged? then maybe folks can evaluate better to make any further comments to get the car going again.
at your ambient temperature it should not be difficult.

Starting problems

drew3395,

There are all kinds of boats in the harbors there with diesel engines, which means there are diesel mechanics that service those engines. Some of the engines are Mercedes, so in the future you can always call on one of the marine diesel mechanics.
