Sandbags help at all?

We got our first 'big' snow today. I was slidin all around the road. Brand new Yokohama Avid Touring tires, full tank of diesel. Would sandbags or some other weight help it out? It's good for being a rear wheel drive car, but still not the jeep in 4WD! Any suggestions?

Sand bags help a lot, just make sure to take them out of your trunk when you don't need them.

Thanks for the quick reply! I will go pick some up tomorrow then. I would be driving the jeep, but she's getting the transmission rebuilt and won't be ready until late monday or early tuesday. Then it's back off to the dealer for more recall work that I swear was done before but they have no records of so it's got to be done.

Thanks again!

hey 190d... coming back from Indianapolis, I encountered slippery and icy roads. I am also interested in seeing what I can do to be safer.

100 lbs in the trunks of my sedans have made all the difference in Michigan winters.

Concrete blocks also work, at least in my truck, but they might be a little too much for use in a trunk.

Stay with sand bags or kitty litter, in the spare tire well or in the side wells, stay away from big hard things in floating around the trunk unless they're bolted in.
The best traction devices are decent tires. my 0.02
