How's the W123 in winter? (pics)

I dug these photos up from an 18" snowfall on 12/30/2000. I couldn't really move my car in the 18" of snow, as you can see in the 3rd picture by the tire tracks. I waited for the plow to come, and I drove all over the place. Great car in the snow. Enjoy

Now that's alot of snow on your car. I was going to post a picture of my car with 12" of snow, but I can't find it.

BBRRRRROOOOOMMM CLAT CLAT CLAT

Hey,

Those pics are good to see actually great. It is neat to notice that the diesel actually started and rolled out!

Do you start out in second to keep the torque in control?

plugged?

I hope you had to plug your car in before you started it up. This morning it was around like 19 here and no start. Hour and a half of glow and it was fine.

-2 deg F here this morning and it started on first crank after 20 seconds of glow plug. No block heater.

I was a bit rough though. I could tell that one cyl was not firing consistantly.

NE snowfall today

Ice everywhere. I am sorry, the W123 is a PIGGGGGGG in the snow. It spins tires constantly until you get into a higher gear. First gear and you slide everywhere. I definately need some snow tires, Nokians maybe. A freak snow sotrm up here in RI let school out early, so the back parking lot at school was covered with ice. Many "spin around" competitions took place, a chevy celebrity ended up with most spins, a 780 lol. I didn't participate. The 240D is definately not a car to go over 30 in on icy back roads.

My first 123 (about 10 years ago) was a 280E. It was a pig, I thought. But I decided that I was going to drive my next car (300CD) in winter, regardless. It was something of a pig the first winter (with Michelin MX4s on it). Then I got Blizzaks. Voila!--no longer a pig!

On my current 240D, I just put Nokian HakkaQ's. Been going like a 4WD in the last 5 days of snow, here in Michigan.

Don't know why, but good snow tires do more for MBs than for any other car I've owned.

Hey Dweller:

I here you on the 123 with snows.

I purchased 12-Winter Kings (big bite, old school type snow tire) and wow.

It does feel like a four wheel drive. Couple of bags of sand in each trunk. My neighbors stayed at the bottom of our hill the other day while all three of ours easily climbed it.

A pic from today's 9" snowfall, almost 2 years later. Only 5-6" are showing in this picture.

Lightbulb ah, so that's the secret!

Snow tires, eh? Been driving fwd VW's so long I forgot about those things! We got about 8" of snow here (Lancaster, PA) today and I couldn't get the 300Dt to move an inch on my slightly slanted driveway!

On the other hand, the sucker started right up the other morning at 16F with no block heater and just one glow cycle... Not bad for 381,000 miles! Snow tires it is!
