warped valve cover?
I replaced the valve cover gasket on my '84 300Dt but still still have oil leaking in area around cam chain sprocket. The cover isn't compressing the gasket in this area and is probably warped.
Any fixes to suggest aside from replacing the cover? Anyone have a used valve cover to sell? Thanks all! fmb |

Mine is bent also from when the timing chain broke and the cam towers broke, pushing everything up. My mechanic says he would send the valve cover to a machine shop and have a few thousands taken off...mine cover's not leaking that bad yet.

Aha! I don't know the history on this car but...there are marks from the cam chain inside the cover. Perhaps this one suffered a similar failure. I was in a hurry to get it back together and didn't measure clearances..just figured there wasn't enough to mill some off the cover, since the marks indicated things were so tight. Hadn't considered that things might have come undone under there. Didn't think there was enough heat to warp the cover, even with it's less than perfect bolt pattern.
Thanks for the possible explanation. fmb |

I wish I didn't have that experience..cost a lot to know about this problem. My valve cover also has marks on the inside, and will not sit level on a concrete slab.
