Can anyone tell me if you can tow with an E series, particularly a
1999 E300 Turbodiesel? I need to tow a boat weighing about
2900-3000lbs, but the owners manual doesnt give any info on towing. I do know they make hitches for the E Class.

Everyone here knows that I am a manual transmission bigot.

That said, I would NOT tow with one of these cars. Not because of the engine, but because of the automatic transmission. If you decide to do it anyway, I would highly recommend that you change your transmission fluid OFTEN.

If you want to tow a boat, I would suggest getting a 4x4 pickup of some kind. The reason I suggest a 4x4 is that they help when pulling out of the launch. If you get one with a V8 you get the extra power you need to haul it, plus a stronger transmission.

Or, they could buy one of those little aluminum jon boats with a little outboard engine, or, better yet, a canoe.
