Hi,
I have the cool benz hubs on the 240...they are really nice and I am extremely paranoid about them being stolen...is there anything I can do to prevent this? Are they hard to replace, other than color matching? Pricey? I have some friends back at school in the big city, kinda risky neighbor hoods for a classic benz over night, when i visit..what to do?! Thanks, -Kurt P.s. Assuming I get the car running well enough to be a daily/trip machine! |

What are "cool Benz hubs"?
240's are s'posed to have wheel covers with the centers painted to match the body color. I think these are more attractive than the alloy wheels.
I've picked up a few spare wheel covers over the years...mostly used. When the car goes into the shop for a spot of painting, I ask the guy to also paint the covers to match. Performance Products carries plain, unpainted covers very reasonably priced, likely other types of wheel covers, too. Good luck |

I never worried about the wheel covers being stolen off my car, I had it parked on a street where cars were vandalized when drunk college students would walk back to their dorms. Nothing ever happened to my car, but others around would have stuff done to them. If you are worried, you might want to take them off your car when you visit your friends.

I would not worry, I have gotten a couple off ebay, there were bunches listed when I got mine. Between ebay and getting a parts car I am up to a 13 of them. I only have 2 working benzes, and my summer wheels are alloy, so I have extras.

So few cars use hubcaps today that hubcap theft has become a lost "art". You're more likely to lose one while driving.

The thing that I would be most worried about being stolen is the hood star.

Aluminum or Stainless?
This sounds dumb, but I haven't had to remove my hub caps yet. I have some paint peeling from a couple of them, so I assume their aluminum. I used to work for an alum. tank manufacturer, and they had to acid wash the tanks to get paint to stay on.

Unsure, but a refrigerator magnet can answer all your questions!

I believe that the hub caps are made out of stainless steal.

I believe you are right
Aluminum would not stay shiny for long, w/o some kind of coating, which wouldn't last. My neighbors Rottweiler has an annoying habit of, well you know, on my wheels. One of these days, I'm gonna rig up an electrical circuit and have a wiener roast. Bad dog!
