Tach install in L406D diesel camper?
Hi,
I'd like to install a tach in my '73 L406D Mercedes camper (it has an OM616 engine, the same as in my '82 240D). The speedo is erratic on it and I can't seem to correct the problem, so thought it a good idea to install a tach. Any suggestions on the best approach to use? - install a used tach/sender from a diesel MB sedan? - install aftermarket diesel tach/sender? (optical, magnetic?) - how to best go about it? Thanks a lot for your help. Season's Greetings to all! --Robert (Ottawa, Canada) |
I would go with an aftermarket Tach. Easy to instal and setup.
Since you are in Canada try these guys: http://www.dieselservices.com/ http://www.dieselautoservices.com/ I would ask about an Isspro product, they make nice stuff. RT |
Thanks RT. I called ISSPro and they identified a solution for me. Basically a sender kit (2 magnets that get glued onto the flywheel, and a sensor that is wired to the tach).
Getting a price from one of the Canadian sources you identified. Best regards, --Robert |

In case someone's curious about what a Mercedes L406D camper looks like, I'll attach a picture of mine to this reply.

You should be happy with the Isspro. I have had good luck with their stuff. Neat camper! Never seen anything like it. RT
