chrome mirror covers 1983 300sd
hi. i just got a pair of chrome covers for the backs of the side mirrors on my 1983 300sd (126). everywhere i have seen these it has said they are very easy to install, but there is no explanation. they came with 2 strips of 3m tape on the inside of each of them- but they don't just stick on over the plastic that is there. does the plastic get removed? does the chrome somehow fit over the plastic? do i have to take the mirror apart? thanks for any help.

Can't answer your question, but was wondering where you got them?

I installed them on past '82 300SD. Had the exact same questions and experience. First, not you do not remove the existing plastic. What I found was the the rubber surround of the outside of the mirror is really what holds the chrome covers on, more so than the tape. You've got to wiggle them on to the mirrors. If you can find a way to heat up the surrounds, it will help. Just be very careful not to get them too hot or they will melt. Haasman
