Wiper Sizes And Suggested Replacements For 300sd?

The wiper blades that came on my 1983 300SD aren't the OE blades and I strongly suspect that they aren't correct replacements either, as the right one (as viewed from the inside) sometimes catches on the hood as it retracts into the "off" position. I was under the impression that there are two different size blades for the left and right on this car. If so, what are the sizes? Also, can someone recommend a good replacement? There is a guy selling some Bosch blades, which my local auto parts store has, but the auction only shows a picture of one size box (20"). The auto parts store looked the car up in their computer but it didn't show a Bosch replacement at all, even though they had the same ones in stock this guy shows in his auction. To further complicate the matter, the replacements that they showed in their system showed the same size for both the left and right. Can someone shed some light on this subject?

Thanks.

right and left look same but are not....

I think I got Bosch replacements from Fastlane, but I am not totally sure. (I think that your 83 - 126 chassis is the same as my 87).

There are right and left blades, but you will be hard pressed to tell the difference by looking at them.

I think that the legnths are the same, but the positioning of the pivot where the arm attaches must be different.

I had the same issue with hitting the hood, plus the chrome molding around the windshield was pretty gouged right in the middle from contact as well.

New blades took care of it in a hurry.

I think the rubber strips are the same length but the blades are different.

Save yourself from more headaches and get a complete set of blades and strips from the FastLane link at the top of the page. Something like $50 and you'll be sure they'll fit.

I haven't seen the SD listed in any Bosch wiper book at the parts store.

I bought Bosch from NAPA close as we could match, but had to modify the mounts. But I did use same for both sides. You do need to watch which way they clip on the arms, or will hit. I'll look at what number I used and get back here later.

Well, I'm blowing smoke. I can't find the package the wipers came in, and they don't look like Bosche. I know I got them at NAPA, so may be their own brand. They didi find a number in their catalogue, but the ones they came up with didn't look exactly like the ones that were on the car. They come with those funky universal-fit clips that out of the package don't fit. There was a tab across the channel where the arm fits in that I ended up taking a small pair of dykes and snipping off. They then fit real nice. Best I can do is show a pix of it. See where the black arrow is. That's where I cut the piece out. You'll have to play with which way to mount them to the arm. I think I ended up putting each one on opposite the other so they don't hit the molding.
All this may not be of any real help, but I am too cheap to spend big bucks where I don't have to. So I made do. What the heck. They wipe the rain off!
